What is General Studies?
Basically it’s an extra AS/A2 qualification for knowing something about what is going on in the world.
Many leading schools and sixth-form colleges are offering General Studies as part of every student’s entitlement.
It is an essential component in the broadening of the post-16 curriculum, and is welcomed by many universities as an additional A-Level. Points gained in A-Level General Studies can be used towards points totals at many higher education establishments. They can also make all the difference in those cases where students have just missed their expected grades in their other examinations.
Most students will commence General studies in Year 13, after they have discontinued one of the four subjects studied in Year 12. However students can opt to take AS General Studies in Year 12, and then concentrate on the A2 component in Year 13. For some students there is the opportunity to fast-track the full A-Level in Year 12.
