Supporting the Transition to Higher Education
There are some excellent website resources to help you support your son or daughter through the transition to Higher Education, which can seem a bewildering process at times!
The main resource is www.ucas.com which has a Parental Section www.ucas.com/parents. UCAS handles all the full time applications to Higher Education and the website examines the entire process including top tips on how to support your child. You can also sign up for bimonthly e-bulletins and download a copy of the Parent Guide.
Aim Higher is a national government funded organisation which tries to help all students fulfil their potential. They produce an excellent Post 16 guide to Higher Education which can be downloaded for free at http://dius.ecgroup.net
Your son or daughter can access one to one Information, Advice and Guidance here at College, from our in house careers staff and from Connexions Personal Advisers by booking a careers guidance interview at the Student Support Desk – staff are available every day of the week. Alternatively they can contact Connexions Direct www.connexions-direct.com
Our college has the prestigious Careermark quality assurance award for the work we do supporting student progression.
Important deadlines for applying for financial support for Higher Education can be found on the on line application website www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance
