Welcome to your future...

Mathematics ICT and Computing

Our Division contains subjects which involve both logical and abstract thinking. We have over 600 students studying in this popular area!
In Mathematics there is a wide choice available to students. If you study AS Mathematics you study Core Maths which includes algebra, graphs, and trigonometry. You also choose an application (Option) of Maths in the areas of Decision, Statistics or Mechanics to suit the area you are most interested in. There is further choice in the A2 year. Students who love to study Mathematics in more depth can take Further Mathematics. This is the equivalent of two subjects and is a good choice if you wish to take a Maths or Maths related degree at university.
If you study ICT you will use a range of software to solve problems in the digital world. This could involve producing a blog, helping with the design of a website or producing invoices for a company. The sample of work you produce is used to answer questions in the examination. You also study ICT systems and how people interact with them, including data transfer and security. The A2 year includes a coursework module so that you can study an area of ICT application in depth.
In Computing, you will learn how data is stored in and used by a computer and how to use high level programming languages. You learn how to solve computing problems and how to construct an algorithm (set of instructions). Students can also find out about how the internet works and also the hardware inside and outside their computer, in addition to the logic that enables PC hardware to function. You can also find out about why a PC needs an operating system. The A2 year includes a coursework module so that you can demonstrate your knowledge of computing systems development.
We also offer GCSE Maths for students who wish to re-sit so that they can increase their job prospects or so that they can apply for a wider range of university courses.
