Languages and Communication
This Division is united by its passion for words and meaning! In English you have a choice of studying Literature to explore how meanings are produced in the interplay between writer and reader. Or you can opt for English Language which offers you a rich world of meanings in literary and non-literary texts, and of course in speech and e-language. Both subjects offer you some freedom in choosing ideas for coursework and at A2 you’ll need to do quite a bit of independent reading and research. In Modern Languages choose from French, German or Spanish. We also support students who are fluent native speakers in a language other than English who would like to do an A level in their mother tongue.
A popular part of studying Languages is the language exchange visits which we organise with partner schools and colleges in France, Germany and Spain. Our students stay for a week in Alsace, Frankfurt Oder or Caceres to experience the local culture, work and of course the language, then return the favour to our foreign students when they visit Nottingham.
