Pre-Arrival Information
What to bring and not to bring with you
The What To Bring document gives a list of items you need to bring with you, it also gives a list of items you do not need to bring.
Visa and Passport
You must make sure you have the correct travel documents and you should organise them in plenty of time before you leave for the UK. The Visa page provides more detailed information about the processes and rules.
Accommodation and Arrival
If you would like the college to arrange you accommodation for you, you need send us a completed Homestay Application Form. Please complete every section of this form as the more information we have about you helps us to find you the most suitable family. Please also tells us about any medical conditions you may have, this is extremely important. Confirmation of your accommodation will be sent to you once we have your arrival details. Do get in touch with the family to introduce yourself before you arrive, it will help to make you less nervous about meeting them for the first time.
If you would like the college to organise your transport from the airport to Nottingham, even if you have organised your own accommodation, then you need to send us a completed Transfer Application Form. Make sure you complete every section of this form clearly. Confirmation will be sent before you leave for the UK. Print this document and have with you in your hand luggage. You will be collected by either a taxi or a minibus and you may be travelling with other Bilborough College Internationals students who are also travelling to Nottingham. If you have any extra passengers with you, then please state this clearly on the form in the section provided.
A transfer can only be arranged from a UK airport to Nottingham. We are unable to organise transport from or to anywhere else.
If you do not need the college to arrange your transport, you need to send us a completed Arrival Notification Form. This form informs us when you intend to arrive in Nottingham. It is also useful for us to inform your arranged family.
Consent Form
If you are under the age of 18, the college must have a completed Consent Form signed by one or both of your parents. This can be emailed to the International team or brought with you.
Living in the UK
Have a look at the Education UK website which is part of the British Council. They have lots of useful information about British culture and what it is like to live in the UK.
Important Dates
The 2011/2012 College Calendar shows the term dates and other important dates. Please remember that unlike Further Education Colleges, at Bilborough your second year of A-Level starts in June and not in September.
What to Expect On Arrival
Your arranged family will help you settle in and there will be an arrival pack from the college providing you with useful information to welcome you. The family will help you to organise your transport to the college.
On arrival at the college you will be greeted by the International Team at reception and for your first week, as a group of new International students, you will have a full induction programme which includes a welcome, tour of the college, introduction of key members of staff, enrolment and information sessions about things like the UK Health and Banking systems. You will also meet existing International students; have a party and a trip to Nottingham City Centre.
